What is a GS and Why is It Important?
The Genuine Student (GS) statement, previously known as Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE), is a critical part of your Australian student visa (Subclass 500) application.
It’s your personal letter to the Australian Government explaining:
- Why you chose to study in Australia
- How the course supports your academic and career goals
- Why you’ll return to Nepal after graduation (unless you’re applying for PR later)
June 2025 Update – MD111 Directive
The GTE has been officially renamed to GS (Genuine Student) as part of Australia’s new visa reforms. However, the content, format, and purpose of your statement remain nearly the same—just more focused on proving your genuine student intent.
✅ What to Include in Your GS Statement
A strong GS in 2025 should clearly and logically cover:
1. Introduction
- Full name, course name, institution, and intake
- Mention you’re applying under Subclass 500
2. Academic Background
- Details of your latest qualifications
- Why you’re not continuing the same course in Nepal
- Address any gaps or shifts in academic field
3. Why Australia?
- Why you didn’t choose Nepal or another country
- Australia’s academic quality, post-study work rights, safety, and career scope
4. Why This Course and Institution?
- Career alignment and skill relevance
- Unique strengths of the course and university/college
5. Ties to Nepal
- Family, future job plans, property, responsibilities
- Your intent to return and contribute to Nepal
6. Career Goals
- Targeted job roles (with salary info if possible)
- Industry demand in Nepal or globally
7. Financial Capacity
- Who is funding your education
- Proof of funds and family income
8. Conclusion
- Strong statement about temporary stay
- Willingness to comply with all visa conditions
GS (Formerly GTE) Statement Sample for Nepali Students – 2025
Subject: GS Statement for Subclass 500 Student Visa
I am Aayush Bhandari, applying for the Bachelor of Information Technology at Torrens University, Sydney for the July 2025 intake. I am passionate about building a career in data analytics, and I believe this course will equip me with the academic knowledge, technical skills, and international exposure required to succeed.
I completed my +2 in Science from Golden Peak College, Kathmandu, securing a GPA of 3.5. While Nepal does offer IT courses, they lack hands-on training, access to cutting-edge technologies, and global job market exposure. Studying in Australia will give me the right environment to grow academically and professionally.
I chose Australia because of its world-class education system, industry-relevant courses, cultural diversity, and post-study work opportunities through the Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485). Compared to the USA or UK, Australia offers more affordable tuition fees, practical learning experiences, and greater employment pathways for international graduates.
I selected Torrens University for its strong industry links, modern curriculum, and personalized learning environment. Their Bachelor of Information Technology includes courses in cloud computing, programming, and database systems—all crucial for my goal of becoming a Data Analyst, and eventually, a Data Manager.
After graduation, I plan to return to Nepal to join leading IT firms such as Leapfrog Technology, Deerwalk, or Fusemachines. I expect to begin as a Data Analyst with an annual salary of around NPR 1,200,000+, eventually advancing into leadership roles.
I have strong family and financial ties to Nepal. My parents, who run a successful family business earning approximately NPR 25,00,000 annually, will fully sponsor my studies and living expenses in Australia. We also own property in Kathmandu, and I have family responsibilities that firmly root me in Nepal.
I fully understand the terms of my Subclass 500 visa and am committed to abiding by all immigration regulations. My sole purpose is to pursue quality education in Australia and return to Nepal with valuable skills and global experience.
Thank you for considering my application.
Sincerely,
Aayush Bhandari
